In September of 1987, the National Assembly of Nicaragua enacted Law 28, the Autonomy Statute for the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. The Statute reivindicates historical demands of the six indigenous peoples and ethnic communities of the Coast for inclusion and more effective participation in political, social and economic decision-making —including decisions on the management and exploitation of the region´s natural and environmental resources—; and calls for the respect and promotion of their own historical and cultural traditions. The foundation was formed by coastal and non coastal women and men with a proven record in developmental work in multiethnic and multicultural contexts who are committed to the the region´s development

Non government entity linking public workers, institutions and social networks who, in partnership with local communities and with the support of international aid agencies, strengthen and consolidate regional autonomy by promoting sustainable human development.
Since 1990 FADCANIC has been promoting educational programs and projects in the different communities of the Autonomous Regions of Nicaragua. Accompanying the indigenous and multiethnic Nicaraguan Caribbean in their efforts to improve the living standards of men, women, boys and girls. Their efforts have materialized through strengthening local capacities of education and technical training in the rational use and protection of natural resources, research and social outreach aimed at sustainable human development of the most vulnerable sectors of the Caribbean Coast.
Vision:
Our vision is a model organization that serves as a source of inspiration and replication to coastal and national actors. It designs and mobilizes funds for innovative projects and programs and ensures that these are carried out efficiently. It is recognized as an organization that contributes effectively to the implementation of the process of Autonomy to which the multiethnic communities of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua aspire.

Achievements:
Participatory evaluation of Excellence project made significant progress in the 42 schools Irradiated and Mentor sponsored in the municipalities of the RAAS. In urban centers there are better infrastructure conditions and opportunities for the professionalization of teachers, the participation of mothers and fathers expressed concern about the academic performance and the infrastructure of schools.
The educational community highly values education which has enabled to achieve remarkable results in the quality of education.
